You don’t need to use every study mode every day. Start with a small set and choose a routine you can comfortably return to.
Choose one set for this session
Pick vocabulary for a current class, a conversation you want to have, or something you’ve recently read. If your set feels too large, split it into smaller topics. A clear stopping point makes a short session easier to finish.
Before starting, give yourself one simple aim: recognise the meanings, recall the words without looking, or use a few words in sentences.
Give yourself a first look
Open Flashcards and review the terms. Say the meaning before revealing it. Mark the cards honestly so the ones that need another look remain visible in your progress.
If you’ve just created the set, use this pass to fix unclear definitions or spelling mistakes. Good practice depends on cards that ask a clear question.
Change the task, keep the vocabulary
Switch to Learn when you want guided practice. Its four stages move from selecting an answer to typing one. Use Test when you want to check what you can recall across a whole set.
With Pro, Reading, Essay and Audio dictation let you practise selected words in another form. Choose one activity rather than feeling you need to finish all three.
A simple session to try
Review a small set with flashcards. Practise the words that feel uncertain in Learn. Finish by writing a sentence with one word you want to use today.
Return to what still feels difficult
At the end of your session, notice which words you mixed up or couldn’t recall. Those are useful starting points for the next session. You can also edit a confusing card or add a phrase that gives the word a clearer context.
Make your next session fit your schedule. Alingva keeps your sets and study progress in your account, so you can return to the same vocabulary.
Let the set grow with you
Add words when you meet them in a new context. Keep the meanings useful, organise sets into folders when your library grows, and share a public set when you want someone else to practise it too.
For help setting up the cards themselves, read the language flashcard guide. For the differences between activities, explore all six study modes.
